Here We Go!
In less than two weeks, we will be gathered together with over 170 of our closest singer friends, taking our first steps through Beethoven's mighty MISSA SOLEMNIS. And with that, the 79th season of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir will be underway!
Since the last time you heard us perform, everyone has auditioned or re-auditioned (new members must audition for admission to the choir; returning members must re-audition annually to keep their spot). In fact, we've heard close to 200 individual auditions between our spring and summer audition dates. I'm always impressed with the high number of very gifted singers that come to try out for membership in the Symphonic Choir. Some are new to town, some have been here for years, but have been waiting for the right time to join. Regardless of the particular circumstances, when you hear them I'm sure you'll agree that this is one very impressive bunch of musicians!
And they have to be. In order to sing everything on our schedule this year–works as demanding as the Bach St. John Passion, Beethoven's incredibly arduous Missa, or the varied repertoire we will find in our Gala Bel Canto (Las Vegas theme this year!), our Pops concerts with the ISO or even our own Festival of Carols, these singers must be adept at numerous languages and styles, a cappella or accompanied by full symphony orchestra, and performing in some of the major concert venues in the United States. We are fortunate to have so many richly gifted singers for this amazing upcoming year.
And we are equally fortunate to have you, our audience members, on board as well. Through your support, enthusiastic encouragement and attendance we are inspired to aim ever higher, to increase our devotion to excellence, and to work to widen the choral sphere in our city and beyond. Thank you for all you do for us, and we look forward to seeing you in the weeks and months ahead!
