Opening Weekend: Festival of Carols 2016

SRC Smalll

The Scottish Rite Cathedral in Downtown Indianapolis: Site of Opening Night of the 2016 Festival of Carols on December 4.

Opening Weekend of Festival of Carols could be summed-up in myriad words, phrases or …even better, through favorite holiday classics:

“It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” comes to mind as we see a chorus of 150 singers decked out in their holiday red attire surrounded by wreaths, garland and twinkling lights.

“O Come, All Ye Faithful” surely rings true as more than 6,000 people will fill the seats in our performances this December alone.

And “The Chipmunk Song” doesn't really apply to anything surrounding great choral music, but who can overlook the fortitude of any choir director getting three sciuridae songsters to sing in harmony?! Major props!

With the curtain rising on the 26th year of Festival of Carols in a few short days, the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir marches proudly forward with its tradition of entertaining and inspiring audiences with choral Christmas music. Opening night is nearly sold out, so we encourage you to look toward the 4 remaining performances at The Palladium in Carmel (on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday one week before Christmas: December 16, 17 & 18).

Curious what 150+ singers do to ready themselves for the big shows? We will share their traditions (and sometimes quirky practices, we all admit) they employ before taking the stage to entertain you – – just visit our Facebook page to see them reviewing notes while in the dentist chair, vocalizing while in line at the bank, and wrestling with the bow-tie.

To each person who makes possible Festival of Carols, thank you. We hope you will share this musical tradition with others this season by giving the gift of music to those near and dear to you.

See you at Festival of Carols!
