Singer Spotlight: Love At First Note

Some of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir's 201 volunteer singers have found much more than a passion for performing through their choral involvement in the Choir. With Valentine's Day upon us, we'd love to share the story of Rick and Carol Thorne.

After meeting in the Symphonic Choir, Rick and Carol tied the knot in 1991.

After meeting in the Symphonic Choir, Rick and Carol tied the knot in 1991.

As Carol says, “Rick and I never would have met were it not for the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir.  He had moved to Indy from Tucson, AZ a few months earlier to start his career at Lilly in Quality Assurance. I am with Roche Diagnostics, also in Quality Assurance. He is a Bass II and I am an Alto II/Tenorette. The Symphonic Choir was in performance week at Hilbert Circle Theatre with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, rehearsing an all-Gershwin program in April 1990. (Doesn't get much more romantic than that!) We had not met, but walked out of the theatre at the same time and started talking about the rehearsal on our walk to the parking garage. I was a single mom with 3 adorable children; He was a single dad, also with 3 adorable children.

“We have been together ever since. April 6, 2015 will be our 24th Wedding Anniversary.  The Symphonic Choir has been a very important part of our lives. In fact, the Choir has been our social time/date nights.”

It is Carol's 38th season with the Choir, and Rick's 25th.
Congratulations (and Happy Valentine's Day), Rick and Carol!
