The lights are twinkling, the choirs are warming up, and the spirit of the season is already in the air at the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir, which can only mean one thing: it’s time for the Holiday Carol Commission Competition!
Are you an emerging composer with a love for choral music and a holiday tune in your heart? Then this is your moment to shine.
Each year, we invite composers from across the country to submit original works that bring the magic of the season to life. One lucky winner will not only receive a $2,500 cash prize, but their carol will be performed live at our 2025 Festival of Carols, a cherished tradition attended by thousands of music lovers. Composers must be 35 years of age or younger (as of December 1, 2025) and United States citizens or legal residents.
And the best part? There’s no entry fee. Just your talent, a great idea, and a deadline: May 31, 2025.
🎁 What We’re Looking For
Think snowy evenings, festive joy, quiet reflection, or a new twist on seasonal traditions. We’re accepting:
- Original, unpublished, and unperformed choral works
- Written for SATB mixed adult choir (with optional keyboard accompaniment)
- 3–5 minutes long
- Featuring holiday-appropriate text (secular is welcome!)
We especially encourage fresh, non-liturgical texts—so skip the “Ave Maria” this time and show us something unexpected!
