A Harmonious Legacy: Celebrating the Power of Collaboration with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra

As curtain call approaches for another season of extraordinary music, the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir’s (ISC) End of Season Celebration does more than mark the close of a performance calendar—it offers a powerful reminder of what makes Central Indiana’s arts community so dynamic: collaboration.

Since its founding, the ISC has partnered with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra (ISO), producing some of the region’s most moving and masterful performances. That relationship is more than just tradition—it’s a blueprint for how two institutions, united by shared purpose, can elevate one another and the community they serve.

“The Indianapolis Symphonic Choir was created with the express intention of singing with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra,” said Dr. Eric Stark, Artistic Director of ISC. “That founding vision has shaped not only our identity as a choir, but the sound and soul of symphonic music in our city.”

Over the decades, the synergy between ISC and ISO has brought to life timeless works like Mozart’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Ninth, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, while championing bold new compositions that challenge convention and stir the spirit. These performances don’t just entertain—they enrich the cultural dialogue of Indiana, draw in new audiences, and demonstrate how deep collaboration fuels creativity.

But this partnership is more than a highlight on the concert calendar—it’s a model of how arts organizations in Central Indiana can thrive by working together. In an environment where arts funding is competitive and audiences have more choices than ever, collaboration becomes not just strategic, but essential.

“When we join forces, we don’t just share a stage—we amplify each other’s reach, deepen our impact, and create something far greater than either organization could alone,” said Dr. Jennifer Cooper, Executive Director of ISC. “Our work with the ISO is a shining example of what’s possible when arts groups invest in one another.”

The End of Season Celebration will honor this partnership by showcasing the depth of artistry that emerges when orchestra and choir blend into a single, powerful voice. It will also serve as an open invitation to other arts organizations in the region to collaborate boldly, explore intersections, and recognize that when we come together, we uplift the entire community.

“The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra is grateful for our ongoing partnership with the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir, which brings exciting new opportunities for artistic collaboration every season. Experiencing the incredible talents of our ISO musicians and ISC members together on stage is truly thrilling for listeners. Through this valued partnership, the ISO renews our shared commitment to the belief that music unites, inspires, and connects our community in lasting, significant ways,” said James Johnson, CEO, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

The Indianapolis Symphonic Choir remains deeply committed to collaboration with ISO and emerging artists, educators, community groups, and cultural institutions throughout Indiana. This is part of a broader belief that the arts are strongest when they are connected, accessible, and inclusive.

As the season concludes, the Choir invites you to celebrate not just a performance, but a philosophy: that through collaboration, we can continue to build a vibrant, resilient, and inspired arts community in Central Indiana.
