From Stage to Stage: Celebrating 90 Years

Since the 1930s, the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir has brought choral music to audiences across Indianapolis and beyond. This anniversary season continues that tradition by taking ISC to some of Central Indiana’s most distinctive cultural spaces.

Each venue offers a different way to experience the Choir. Whether you’re joining us for jazz, holiday traditions, symphonic masterworks, or an immersive celebration of music and art, you’ll discover a new destination throughout ISC’s 90th anniversary season.

Madam Walker Legacy Center | Indianapolis

MOOD INDIGO: Celebrating Musical Traditions | October 10

We’re kicking off the 90th Anniversary Season at a venue where Indianapolis’ rich musical and cultural history enriches your experience. The Madam Walker Legacy Center sets the scene for MOOD INDIGO: Celebrating Musical Traditions. This evening brings together choral music and jazz while celebrating Dr. Michael Davis’ 25 years with the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir. MOOD INDIGO will showcase a different side of ISC’s artistry and the musical traditions that have shaped Dr. Davis’ journey with ISC, featuring performances from special guest artists and longtime friends of Dr. Michael Davis, Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo.

The historic Walker Theatre is part of the Madam Walker Legacy Center, housed in the landmark Madam C.J. Walker Building on Indiana Avenue. Opened in 1927, the building is deeply connected to Indianapolis’ Black history, entrepreneurship, music, and cultural life.

Hearing the ISC’s jazz-inspired concert in this historic setting, where music has long shaped this neighborhood’s identity, connects the music to the vibrant traditions that helped make Indiana Avenue famous worldwide.

Kurt Vonnegut Museum & Library | Indianapolis

Jazz Soirée – Mood Indigo After Party | October 10

Just across the street from the Madam Walker Legacy Center, the Kurt Vonnegut Museum & Library offers an intimate setting to continue the MOOD INDIGO celebration with Jazz Soirée. Dedicated to preserving and sharing the life, work, and legacy of Indianapolis-born author Kurt Vonnegut, the museum is a unique cultural destination that immerses visitors in celebrating creativity, storytelling, and the arts. Kurt Vonnegut was an Indianapolis-based author, born just a few years before the Choir originally started. His novels were satirical and at times, darkly humorous.

Following the final performance, guests can gather for the Jazz Soirée – Mood Indigo After Party, featuring live jazz, drinks, light refreshments, and opportunities to mingle with fellow patrons, artists, and ISC singers.

Pike Performing Arts Center | Indianapolis

Festival of Carols | December 6

A beloved Indianapolis Symphonic Choir tradition expands this holiday season.

The Pike Performing Arts Center, a community-focused performing arts space located on the Pike High School campus, welcomes audiences for everything from student productions to professional performances. Its nearly 1,500-seat auditorium offers a full-scale theatre experience while remaining rooted in its northwest Indianapolis community.

This season, Festival of Carols fills the space with soprano Kim Kenny, the ISC Festival Orchestra, and supporting spotlight choirs (at all Festival of Carols performances), inviting you to experience a beloved holiday tradition in a new setting. This year, there’s even more to discover, including a brand-new artisan market featuring 10 local vendors, photos with Santa, and more holiday magic before and after the show.

Voices of the Spirit: Berlioz Requiem | April 23

The Payne & Mencias Palladium gives audiences two opportunities to experience the Choir in one of central Indiana’s premier concert halls during the ISC’s special 90th Anniversary Season. The grand concert hall is a staple in Central Indiana and the centerpiece of the Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel. The setting makes it a natural home for some of the season’s biggest musical moments.

ISC returns to the Payne & Mencias Palladium for Festival of Carols, ringing in the holiday season on one of the region’s most celebrated stages. The excitement builds with Battle of the Carols, where you can donate to vote for the songs you want to hear.

In the spring, the Choir returns for Voices of the Spirit, joining musicians from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and tenor Thomas Cooley for Berlioz’s monumental Great Mass of Death (Grande Messe des Morts).
